The short version. You can use Squapp without an account and without giving us anything. We use Google Analytics only if you accept it, never for ads, we don't sell or rent your data, and we don't build profiles of you.
We only keep an email address when you give it to us in a form, and only for the reason that form says.
1. Who we are
Squapp ("we", "us") is a website that helps people choose iPhone apps. It is run by [company name and address]. For anything about your data, write to hello@asksquapp.com.
2. What we collect, and why
Searches. When you search, we keep the words you typed and whether we found an answer, so we can see which questions we answer badly and improve. The search log has no name, email, IP address or other way to tell who searched. Please don't type personal details into the search box.
Reviews. When you review an app we keep your rating, how long you've used the app, your review, your first name and your email. Your first name, rating and review are shown publicly once a person approves them. Your email is never shown; we use it to stop duplicate reviews and, if needed, to contact you about your review.
Newsletter. If you sign up, we email you a link to confirm, and you join the list only once you open it. We keep your email and the page you signed up from, and send you new guides now and then. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, which deletes your address from the list. Signups that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days.
App makers. When you submit or claim an app, book a Spotlight week or join a plan's waitlist, we keep your email, the App Store link, the weeks or plan you chose and anything you write in the form (for example a pitch, who the app is for, or answers about the app). We use it to review the request and reply to you. To check you're on the app's team we compare your email's domain with the developer website Apple lists, and may email you a confirmation link.
Abuse protection. To stop spam and attacks, we count how many requests come from each visitor in a short window. We store a one-way scrambled code (a salted hash) made from your IP address, never the address itself, and delete it within a day.
Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider records technical logs of requests (such as IP address, browser type and the page asked for) to keep the service running and secure. These are kept for a short time and are not used to identify or profile visitors.
3. Cookies and analytics
Analytics, only with your consent. If you click "Accept" in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages, searches and buttons people use, so we can make the site more helpful. It sets cookies in your browser and Google receives technical information such as your approximate location, device, browser and the pages you visit. We turn off Google's advertising features: no ad personalization and no ad cookies. If you click "Decline", or never choose, Google Analytics isn't loaded at all. You can change your mind any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
Page speed. To keep the site fast, Vercel Speed Insights measures how quickly pages load for visitors. It uses no cookies and doesn't identify you: it records load times with the page address and the kind of device and browser.
Everything else. We don't use advertising cookies. The only other cookie is a sign-in cookie for the site's own administrators. Your browser also stores your cookie choice and small preferences for the site, which never leave your device.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal data. We share it only with the services that run Squapp for us, and only what each one needs:
- Hosting (our website host) and database (where the data above is stored).
- Email delivery (Resend), to send you the emails you asked for, such as a confirmation link or the newsletter.
- AI (Anthropic's Claude), which reads the words of a search to understand what you're looking for. It gets the search text only, never who searched.
- Apple, whose App Store search we ask for apps that fit a search. It gets the search words only.
- Vercel Speed Insights, to measure how fast pages load, without cookies or anything that identifies you.
- Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies, to measure how the site is used. We keep its data for 14 months.
These providers may process data in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires it we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect Squapp, its users or the public from harm or fraud.
5. How long we keep it
- Reviews: as long as the review is on the site. Ask us and we'll remove yours.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- App maker requests and waitlists: as long as we need them to handle the request, and no more than 24 months after our last contact.
- Abuse protection codes: up to 1 day.
- Searches: up to 24 months, with nothing that identifies who searched.
- Google Analytics data, if you accepted it: 14 months.
6. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw a consent you gave (for example to the newsletter) at any time. Write to hello@asksquapp.com from the email address in question and we'll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the Israeli Privacy Protection Law or US state laws (like the CCPA) may give you more rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
7. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to the admin area needs a password and expires, forms are limited against abuse, and we store only what's described here. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you, and the authorities where required, if a breach affects you.
8. Children
Squapp is for a general audience and isn't aimed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you think a child has given us data, write to us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For a significant change, we'll say so on the site or by email to the people it affects.
